10 Indoor Activities to Do With Your Kids

School is closed, its raining out or you are just looking for some ideas to entertain your kids without leaving your house. Whatever the reason, staying in with your kids doesn’t have to be boring for them or you. Here are a few fun ideas:

  1. Treasure Hunt – Hide an object and leave clues (for little ones you can use pictures) for your children to find. You can do one hunt for multiple kids or separate hunts if sibling rivalry is real in your home.
  2. Movie Time – Pick a movie, grab some popcorn and snuggle together on the couch.
  3. Drawing/Painting – Grab some paper and crayons/ markers/paints and get creative! YouTube also has some great drawing tutorials that are easy for little ones (4+) to follow along with. Check out Easy Kids Drawings or Art for Kids Hub.
  4. Read – Read a book with your littles. Have a discussion about your favorite characters or what you liked most or least about it.
  5. Get Moving – Grab an old workout/yoga DVD, or put on your favorite CD and have a dance off! Play the freeze dance or musical chairs.
  6. Dress Up – Grab those old Halloween costumes, or dress up clothes and do a fashion show. You can also use this as an opportunity to clean out your kids closet, have them try on clothes and get rid or pack away items that no longer fit or items they no longer wear.
  7. Crafts – Keep a box of paper, scissors, glue, ribbon string etc handy and you have all you need to make cards, and other crafts. Alternatively go to your local hobby store and stock up on some premade craft kits for indoor days.
  8. Puzzles or Board Games – Puzzles are great for individual play and with board games you can get the whole family involved!
  9. Baking and Decorating– All kids love baking and decorating things, but parents hate the mess (and all the leftover cake!). I have found that the individual mug cakes that are now available in most stores are perfect for this, they make individual servings that the kids can decorate and eat themselves. They normally come with icing, so all you need to do is buy any extra decorating items.
  10. Other Games – Hide and seek, charades, four corners and Simon says are all great indoor games to add to your boredom busting arsenal.
